February 2025, Protest of Trump Immigration Policy, Harrisonburg

Today was my first official protest of the second Trump administration. I’m not sure who organized it, but it was definitely leaders from the local immigrant community. Harrisonburg is rich in culture. A total of 53 languages are spoken in our schools from as many as 49 countries. It’s a welcoming town and a beacon of hope for me amidst the turmoil in our nation and our world. As Trump and his collection of sycophants try to destroy the United States, it’s up to each of us as individuals to hold things together until we can turn the tide against him.

Humanity has infinite capacity for good and ill. We will eventually root the dark influence from our nation, but people like Trump are never vanquished. It’s why the price for freedom is eternal vigilance.

This is the beginning of a long struggle. We need community, we need leadership and we need folks who are willing to get into good trouble for the sake of building a better country and a better world.
